Update from Residents Committee

FINANCE UPDATE FROM
THE RESIDENTS COMMITTEE.
21st JUNE 2020

Water Rates:
We have been in negotiations with Ballina Shire Council on two issues
concerning water rates.
The first is concerning what we thought was an overcharge which was brought
about by individual meter reading occurring at different times to the main
meter read. Yesterday we received an adjustment notice of $12,062.47 credit.

Our second is even more extensive and complex. We are looking at the
comparisons between Residential charges and Business charges as a dollar
comparison, current and proposed, with and without pension rebates, costs of
processing etc. At the moment we are heading in a favourable direction.
But, this is all subject to Palm Lake and Residents Approval to proceed and
Ballina Shire Council agreeing to change the rating category. We will keep you
informed.
Thank you
John Adlington.

Workshop - we need your help

A group of Palm Lake Ballina workshop volunteers recently built 24 bird boxes to assist local wildlife after the fires. These were gratefully received by the Lismore Wildlife Society and have been put to good use.

Bird box in use

They have recently received a new request for possum boxes, and due to a generous donation from Bunnings, have been able to put together materials for over 20 boxes.

If you would like to help out in the workshop constructing these boxes, please contact:

Michael Sherlock    Villa 231 Mobile 0402300336

Peter Kafka            Villa 238 Mobile 0417864626

If you haven’t used the workshop before you will need to be ‘inducted’ – please contact Ted (Villa 145: phone 2145) to arrange a suitable time.

Donations will be welcomed to be able to continue the work as requests have also been received from other wildlife societies.

Palm Lake Golfers hit the course at Chinderah

Last Friday (29th May) 14 Palm Lake golfers travelled to Chinderah to play 18 holes in a friendly competition.

This a regular event on the last Friday of the month. Everyone is welcome.

You do not need to be a member of a club as we will work out a handicap for you. Hit off is at 9am and the game costs $20 with a shared cart.

Normally we will take the Palm Lake bus and stop after the game for lunch and will do so again after the restrictions are lifted.

Doug Stinson was the winner last week with a score of 43 points. Looks like he has found a sport he might be good at as fishing hasn’t worked out for him so far.

If you are interested contact Bill Oliver at Villa 185 for further information.

Trailer for hire

The Residents' Committee now has a trailer available for hire @ $5.00 / day.
The trailer is formally registered for use outside the Resort.
Any resident wishing to hire the trailer please contact  Steve Horne Villa 118 / 0427661688.
This is a very substantial trailer as you can see from the attached photograph.

Online Art Exhibition

For the past few years Palm Lake Resort Ballina has hosted an exhibition of art works created by some of our incredibly talented residents. This year, due to the Corona virus, it has not been possible to have an exhibition in the Oasis clubhouse.
Instead we have decided to have a ‘online’ exhibition. This is a wonderful opportunity to see what some of your fellow residents get up to in their spare time – you might be amazed!
We have featured six artists initially, with more to follow over coming weeks. Check back regularly for updates.
For more information about the exhibition, or if you are an artist and would like to have your work included, contact Col Legatt Villa 90 or Terry Polwarth Villa 106.

To access the exhibition website click on the link below.

You can also access it by typing https://juliepallant.com/art-exhibition/ in the web address window at the top of your Internet browser

Exercises from our Kate

Tools Donation

Here is a letter from Helen and Max Armstrong who organised a collection of much-needed tools for a little township down south which was severely affected by bushfire.

We would like to thank all the residents of Palm Lake, who helped us with donations of tools and building materials for the fire ravaged town of Quaama. It is a little hamlet near Moruya on the South Coast. The community felt that they had been forgotten. Many were left with only the clothes they were wearing. Many are still waiting for power in some places, three months after the bush fires.
With help from Nathan at Hertz, who donated the use of a truck, Greg from Lismore Party Hire, and Andrew from GMC Enviro, we were able to deliver a full load of goods to their School of Arts Hall. The joy on their faces is etched in our minds forever....so much more to be done, but proving that a little bit of kindness goes such a long way
